Base64 is an encoding scheme, not encryption. Anyone can decode it; never use it to protect secrets.

What does this tool do?

Base64 encoding represents text bytes as printable characters. Enter text to encode it, or paste a Base64 string to decode it. Base64 is reversible encoding, not encryption.

When to use this tool

Use this Base64 converter when a system represents UTF-8 text as printable characters. Encode plain text or decode an existing string to inspect its contents. This text tool is not a binary file converter, and Base64 does not make confidential data secure.

How to use Base64 Encoder / Decoder

  1. Enter text to encode or a Base64 string to decode.
  2. Choose Encode or Decode.
  3. Copy the output, or swap it back into the input.

Common questions

Does it support Unicode?

Yes. Text is converted to UTF-8 bytes before encoding and decoded using a strict UTF-8 decoder.

Why does decoding fail?

Check for invalid characters, incorrect padding, or binary content that is not valid UTF-8 text.

Working with a large input? Text converters accept up to 1,000,000 characters. Regex test text is limited to 50,000 characters and JWTs to 100,000.
